Dicey (the app, we, us) is a daily quiz app for couples and best friends, made by Seif (hello@diceytogether.app). This document explains what data the app collects, why, and what your rights are.
The short version: we don’t ask for your email, phone, or photos to use Dicey. We use anonymous accounts so the app works without a signup form. On our servers we store your pair links, quiz answers, completions, optional notes/feedback, and hashed recovery codes. Display names and avatar choices are stored on your device; illustrated avatars may also load from our public CDN.
What we collect and why
1. Anonymous account
What: A randomly generated user id when you first open the app (Supabase anonymous auth).
Why: To know which device belongs to which pair and to sync quiz progress between two people.
Stored where: Our database (Supabase).
2. Pair / bond links
What: Rows that link your anonymous id to another person’s for a partner thread and, optionally, a best-friend thread. Created when someone shares an invite code or QR and the other joins.
Why: So each thread stays private and separate.
Stored where: Our database.
3. Quiz answers and completions
What: Your answers to daily and library quizzes, when you finished, and related session data needed to compare results when both people are done.
Why: To keep both phones in sync and show match / compare results.
Stored where: Our database.
4. Recovery code (hashed)
What: A recovery code shown when a thread is created. We store a one-way hash, so we cannot recover the plain code if you lose it.
Why: So you can re-link after reinstalling or leaving by mistake.
Stored where: Our database (hash only). A copy may also stay on your device for convenience.
5. Optional notes, nudges, and feedback
What: Soft daily notes you write, nudge actions to your person, and feedback messages you submit (category + text).
Why: Notes and nudges are part of the product experience; feedback helps us improve Dicey.
Stored where: Our database (and nudge state may also be cached on your device).
6. Names, avatars, and preferences on device
What: Display names, avatar choices, theme/sound preferences, and similar settings.
Why: So the app looks and feels right for you.
Stored where: Primarily on your phone via secure device storage. Illustrated avatar images may be downloaded from our public avatar CDN and cached on device.
7. Optional device permissions
Only if you use the related feature:
- Camera for scanning invite QR codes.
- Notifications to remind you about quizzes or a partner waiting.
- Calendar to add anniversary or wrap events if you choose.
- Microphone for optional short voice notes if you record one.
You can deny these permissions and still use the rest of the app.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not require your email, phone number, or legal name to use Dicey.
- We do not collect your precise location.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not use third-party marketing analytics SDKs.
Third parties
- Supabase for database, anonymous auth, real-time sync, and public storage for avatar assets. Privacy policy.
- Expo / EAS for the app build and update pipeline (does not receive your quiz answers as part of normal use). Privacy policy.
- Google Play / Apple: if you install from a store, that store’s own privacy terms also apply to distribution and any crash reporting they provide.
Your rights
You can:
- Leave a thread in Settings, for that partner or best-friend thread. That removes your membership for that thread. Recovery codes may still let you return if you keep them.
- Reinstall: uninstalling removes local device data. Server data for your pairs remains until you leave or recover as above, or ask us to delete it.
- Request deletion by emailing hello@diceytogether.app and we will delete account-linked server data we control.
Children
Dicey is intended for adults. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe we have, contact hello@diceytogether.app and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the version date at the top will update. Material changes may also be noted in the app or store listing.
